Art I - Drawing

Art I is a year long drawing class at West Catholic. The first semester, students develop their skills by drawing still lives of white geometric objects, gray, black & white forms, colored forms, textured objects, transparent objects, reflective objects and more.

Second semester they then move on to the human form, drawing facial feature,
formal portraits, profile drawings, and eventually the whole human figure from a live student model.

Fourth quarter students learn to draw in perspective. Students learn one and two point perspective and dabble in landscape drawing.

This course gives students a solid foundation in drawing. Students who go on in art at West Catholic, will experience many different mediums throughout their years, but for now, they create with pencil, pen, and paper.

Art vocabulary and terminology are taught and the relationship of drawing to history
and to contemporary life is incorporated. Students are required to work in a sketchbook.
